Bear River Mutual Parking Structure

Wadsworth Brothers Construction built this $2.7 Million parking structure for Bear River Mutual Insurance Company (BRMI). To preserve their views of the Wasatch Mountains, BRMI needed the entire structure built below grade.   The project also had to fit within a very tight site.  Foundation walls had to be located within 5 ft. of nearby property lines and within 2 ft. of existing office buildings.  WBC designed and installed several types of earth retention systems to protect property and existing footings.  Extensive utility coordination was required between Wadsworth and Murray City Power, Murray Public Services Department, and Rocky Mountain Power to manage the needs of a neighboring hotel and mindful of the impact construction was to the operations of nearby businesses.   Connecting to BRMI’s existing parking structure, this 50,000 square foot addition provided 228 extra parking stalls.  The structure was designed with an 8-inch flat plate post-tensioned slab. Substantial savings were realized by optimizing the formwork and quantity of concrete required for the PT slab construction.
